Helicopter Private Pilot Rating

The Private Pilot Certificate is the foundation of a helicopter pilot's training. With this license you can venture out into the world of aviation. Whether you plan to fly as a hobby, give rides to friends and family, or simply build experience for future ratings, each student pilot begins with the Private Pilot’s license.

While achieving the private license, you will receive instruction in the basic and advanced operations of a helicopter. You will have hands-on practical experience in the helicopter from day one. Ground school will cover topics such as aerodynamics, airport operations, weather, radio communication and navigation.

The first milestone on the path to your license is for you is to fly the helicopter solo. To help prepare you for this unforgettable achievement your instructor will teach you maneuvers, emergency procedures, pick-ups and set-downs. Your training will be conducted at one of Southern California’s busiest general aviation airports which will make you comfortable in the busy LA Basin. After you solo your training will then turn to lessons covering night flying and cross-country navigation.

The final stages of training will sharpen and polish your skills to prepare for the practical examination conducted by a FAA examiner. Once the practical examination is complete you will be issued your private pilot license.
