Flight Training
Spin & Unusual Attitude Training Program

The California Flight Center Spin and Unusual Attitude Training program is a five lesson syllabus that presents spin theory, spin safety, and spin flight procedures.  This five lesson syllabus prepares pilots for proper recognition and recovery from spins and unusual attitudes encountered in high performance aircraft and inverted flight.
Since spins most likely are the result of unusual attitudes encountered during flight, there is a comprehensive discussion of spins given by our instructors in order to enable the California Flight Center pilot to better understand the aerodynamics of spins prior to flight.  California Flight Center uses the building block method of flight training to help the pilot visualize the conditions and forces that precede a spin, are encountered during the spin, and then are experienced during spin recovery.

  1. Lesson one takes the student through medium and steep banked turns to get a feel for the airplane.  This is followed by flight at MCA (minimum controllable airspeed).  Next is the introduction of stalls, oscillation stalls, the falling leaf (auto-rotation), and then the first spin.
  2. Lesson two goes into more spin training to emphasize precision and then capped off with realistic scenarios of “over the top” and “under the bottom” spins.
  3. Lesson three introduces the pilot to inverted flight, once again, through the building block method of flight instruction.
  4. Lessons four and five then take the pilot in a high performance aerobatic aircraft through upright normal, accelerated, and flat spins.  These spins will be flown by the pilot in both right and left turns and in inverted flight.  Then the student is taken through a combination of various unusual attitude recoveries.

All of this training is based upon getting experience and doing the “real thing”, which cannot be accomplished in flight simulators.
